Weight Loss

 2012
Last year I started my weight loss journey.  This year has been a struggle trying to get going again.  There have been ups and downs, but I know I can do it and keep going.  I encourage all who are searching  to lose weight to jump in feet first.  If you're not dedicated to it, nothing is going to change.  I had a real eye opener when the doctor linked my precancer to my weight.  I have been quite sick since the D&C though and haven't really worked out since then.  I try and then get really sick again.  I had the most amazing Priesthood blessing this morning and am back on top of my weight loss goals.  I can do it and so can you.
January 3, 2012197.0 lbs.  I have gained about 10 lbs. back.  I am still down almost 40 lbs. though.  Get back on top if it when I can.

January 19, 2012:  194.2 lbs.  Down 2.8 lbs.  Started 6 week 6 pack today.  I'll finish February 29th, which ironically is also the last day of birth control pills as well.  Good timing!
January 26, 2012192.6 lbs.  Down 1.6 lbs in 1 week with 6 week 6 pack, down 4.4 lbs. total for year.
February 2, 2012:  190.8 lbs.  Down 1.8 lbs. in week 2 of 6 week 6 pack, total 6.2 lbs for the year.
February 3, 2012:  Not a weigh in day, but went shopping with my husband today.  I bought some pants that were size 16.  I was so excited I couldn't wait to post it.  I was a size 14 when we got married and I weigh 30 lbs. more than I did when we got married.  Underneath all this fat there is going to be an amazing looking person come out one of these days!
February 9, 2012:  189.4 lbs.  Down 1.4 lbs in week 3.  Total for the year is 7.6 lbs.  Half way through 6 week 6 pack I have lost 4.8 lbs.  I have also lost a total of an inch off my chest, waist, and arms.  I shrunk my thighs by four inches.  I started workout 2 on the DVD and it is wearing me down.  Oh well, that just means I'm shrinking down to a smaller me.
February 16, 2012:  188.8 lbs., down .6 lbs.  Total for the year 8.2 lbs.  I was off my meds and couldn't get my doctor's office to get a prescription in.  This was my experiment week.  My medication for PCOS helps me lose twice the weight than when I'm not on it.  Good to know!
February 23, 2012:  187.2 lbs., down 1.6 lbs.  Total year 9.8 lbs.
February 27, 2012:  184.8 lbs., down 2.4 lbs., total year 12.2 lbs.  Yeah me!
March 5, 2012:  186.0 lbs, up 1.2 lbsI got this email about weight plateaus and thought I'd share with everyone.

Weight Plateaus…And What to Do About Them
Often, the road to weight loss can take some frustrating turns. You’ve made lifestyle changes, you’re eating better, exercising, and you’ve lost weight, but now you are at a point where the disappearance of pounds has come to a stubborn halt. What do you do? Give up? Throw in the towel? No! Consider these suggestions:
·         Give yourself credit for what you have already done. You have made changes to improve your health. You are exercising. You are getting more fruits and vegetables. You are eating out less. For whatever changes you have made, pat yourself on the back!
·         Ask yourself if you are doing anything that could counteract weight loss. Are you less consistent with exercise? Are you eating because you are bored or stressed? Are you mindlessly nibbling? These habits could challenge your best efforts.
·         Do you need to switch up your exercise routine? It is common for the body to become less efficient with burning calories because it acclimates to the same activities. You might need to adjust a few things, such as:
o   Increasing the frequency of your workouts. Try adding another day each week.
o   Bumping up the intensity of your exercise. You can increase the speed, incline, or weight in your exercise routine.
o   Increase the time of your exercise sessions. Start by adding 5-10 minutes.
o   Get creative; switch up the type of the exercise you are doing. Try a more intense version of a similar activity, or try something completely new.
Keep up the good work; make any adjustments that might help you achieve your weight loss goals. Most importantly, focus on taking care of your health and feeling well!
April 4, 2012:  183.6 lbs., down 2.4 lbs.  FINALLY!!!!!  I hit a weight plateau for a whole month, man was it irritating.  We went to our Healthy Utah appointments the other day and they said to bump up the calories a little and that would help bust your metabolism, so I did.  I finally lost weight and hope to continue to do so.  Sometimes it's frustrating, but you have to hang in there and just keep going.

May 17, 2012:  183.2 lbs.  I am staying around the same weight, but losing inches quite rapidly.  I keep thinking one of these days I'll drop a bunch of weight.  We shall see!  My friend is a personal trainer and she was telling me last weekend that she sees people who go months with no weight loss and then all of a sudden they drop weight.  My year to date inch changes are as follows:
Waist = down 5 inches    Chest = down 2 inches    Thighs = down 4.5 inches   Hips = down 2 inches
Arms = down 1 inch.  I have come a long way in a year and a half.  I know others lose weight faster than me, but considering the weight loss challenge I face (PCOS) I have been doing a great job.  I can only compare my weight loss to me!

 2011
I decided this year that I was sick of being heavy and that I needed to do something about it.  On January 14th I started my weight loss and healthy lifestyle change.  I started small with working out and watching what I eat.  As I've progressed my workouts get more intense, but I have done really well so far.

Another thing I learned this summer is that people with insulin resistance issues (PCOS patients) have to eat a little differently.  It is not good for me to have a straight carb meal or snack.  I need to have some protein or high fiber something with it.  If I don't, my insulin shoots through the roof.  It can cause mood swings and tiredness, which I can attest to.  Since I learned this from Branden's cousin, she's a dietitian, it has helped me to feel even better.  I look forward to continuing the journey and am hoping by this time next year I can be back to the weight they say I should be.

March 1, 2011:  Lost 2.4 lbs.  Grand total:  13.2 lbs.-213.0 lbs.

I quit writing down my weigh ins for a while, but will continue to do so when I remember.

June 27, 2011:  Lost 2 lbs.  Grand total: 31.4 lbs.-194.8 lbs. Finally under the weight I was when I got pregnant with Braxten.  I'm so proud of myself!  Got rid of 8 inches total around my waist, 2 inches on my thighs, 2 inches on my arms, 1.5 inches on my neck, 4.5 inches on my hips, 1 inch on my calves, and 3 inches on my chest.  That is my total measurements to date.
July 14, 2011:  Weighed in and lost 1.4 lbs.  Grand total 32.8 lbs.-193.4 lbs.

July 18, 2011:  Weighed in and lost 1.2 lbs.  Grand total 34 lbs.-192.2 lbs.
August 1, 2011:  Weighed in and lost 2.0 lbs.  Grand total 36 lbs.-190.2 lbs.

August 3, 2011:  Weighed in and lost 0.6 lbs.  Grand total 36.6 lbs.-189.6 lbs.  I broke the 190 mark and I'm so excited!  I"m now at the lowest weight I've been since 2005 - that's 6 years.  Started swimming again while Brax is in swim lessons.  Although I did black out in the shower this afternoon.  Still not feeling that well and overdoing it doesn't help.  I don't know how to relax though.   I think I've been even more sick since I got home from camping.  I need some rest!
August 7, 2011:  Branden reached his goal of 190.0 lbs.  He lost 36.5 lbs.  I am so proud of him and he looks really good.  He still is in weight loss mode, partially because he's been doing it for so long it's become part of his routine.  He is training for a triathlon with the scouts now so he's more toning.  I'm sure he'll lose a few more lbs. and that would be okayHe's so very supportive and I'm grateful for that.
August 10, 2011: Lost 0.4 lbs, grand total 37.0 lbs., 189.2 lbs.  Starting P90X on Monday when school starts.

August 15, 2011: 189.2 lbs.  Started P90X this morning.  We'll see how it goes.  I was going to do the lean program, but got reading online and decided to do the classic version instead.
August 22, 2011:  190.4-gained 1.2 lbs.  I have noticed some inches going away since started P90X though.  I finished week one and started week 2 today.  I'm hoping soon that lbs. and inches both go away.  Over the weekend we went up and saw family.  While there I took a picture of me with my siblings.  I am so excited because now I don't look like the fat sister, only the bigger sister.  If you want a kick butt workout, try P90X.  You have to be dedicated because it's a 90 day program.  I'll continue to update.  My youngest sister is going to start it when she moves in I think.
                                   August 20, 2011
August 23, 2011:  188.4 lbs., down 2.0 lbs. Total 37.8 lbs.
August 26, 2011:  I put on my size 18 pants and they fit with a little room to move.  I know to other that may sound big still, it is!  I started this journey at a size 24.  Now down 3 pant sized and 3 cup sizes.  It was so great to put them on.  P90X is a very intense energy packed workout and it's hard, but I"m sticking with it.  I was just thinking today what took me 6 years to do to myself (72 months) I have undone in 7 months.  It's amazing how quick the body can lose weight.  Anyway, I'll post more another day.
August 27, 2011:  Started my cycle today.  Why would I post that?  I've had two regular ones and this third one started right on time.  I hope that my body will maintain the regularity.  If so, I haven't been this way since I was a teenager, 10 years ago.  YEAH!!!!!!
September 12, 2011:  187.4 lbs.  Total 38.8 lbs.
October 1, 2011:  After the early miscarriage, I have been sick and going through testing and haven't worked out much.  I've played volleyball last week and this week 2 nights.  On Monday I'm going to start working out again and really keeping track of my calories.  I've been so awful.  I've had ice cream in the house and been making treats on a regular basis.  Not such a good idea for me.  I'll get it all back under control.  Hopefully I'll have a new update in the next week.
October 3, 2011:  186.2 lbs.  Total 40.0 lbs.  I'm so proud of myself.  I started Jillian Michael's 6 week 6 pack today.  I don't expect to have a 6 pack in 6 weeks with all the fat I have to bust through, but I do hope to shrink down my abdomen in that time.  I didn't dare go right back to P90X and after today's workout I'm glad that I didn't.  It wiped me out!  Next week I'm going to add her 30 day shred to the mix as well.  We'll see how it goes!
December 14, 2011:  With the surgery, bronchitis, and the flu, I haven't really been able to work out.  I try and then get sick again.  I'm hoping to be healed soon so that I can return to my weight loss.  Over the past few months I have gained 6 lbs. back.  I know weight 192.0 and am hoping to maintain that over the holidays.  Starting January 2nd it's back onto weight loss and hoping to lose at least 10 lbs. by the time I return to the doctor again to see what's going to happen next.
