Thanksgiving Weekend Fun

We are still running every which way, but having fun doing it. We were able to visit family for Thanksgiving and I really needed it. I was getting homesick for Venice and that hasn't happened since we moved to Hurricane, so it was about time. I forgot my camera once again, so no pictures only details. It was so cold the whole time we were in Glenwood and Venice. I thought I was going to freeze to death. The one morning it was -5 degrees.

While in Venice and Glenwood, I went Thanksgiving Day shopping at KMart and Black Friday shopping at Wal-Mart. I got nearly everything I went for. The only thing I didn't get was the Bourne series of movies for Branden, but they were gone within a minute of being opened. Oh well! I must say we are very blessed in our lives and I'm truly grateful for that.

Thanksgiving day was so much fun! My mom and I went shopping. After that, we cleaned up the Venice School House and made pies. We ate our feast at the school house. Following that, we had roller skating races and a mini baseball game inside. Everyone had a great time. We then headed over to Glenwood and spent the rest of the evening until 10 pm. Shanelle and I went to Wal-Mart about 10:30 pm to scope it out. All the Cowley girls and Anderson girls that were in town went out shopping. We did our normal divide and shop bit. I think everyone got pretty much what they went for. That morning after about 5 hrs of sleep we got up and went hunting Christmas trees. We found some pretty trees and I'm happy with the one we got.

November 28th, 2010 our big guy turned 7. I was struggling with that. He'd received some presents from family members over Thanksgiving that he was so excited about. At 6:30 am on the big Birthday morning, he was in our room wanting to open presents. He didn't get to open them until 9 though because we were exhausted. He was spoiled once again, as he has been most of his life. I guess that's the perks of being an only child. For Family Home Evening, we had cake and ice cream as a family. We also decorated partially for Christmas. Brax helped decorate his birthday cake.

So Behind

Sorry about not blogging for so long. It seems like one thing comes after another. My sister, Cara and her fiancee went through the temple on October 1st to receive their endowments. We were able to go. It was a lot of fun. It was also General Conference weekend so we stayed until Sunday. It was a lot of fun spending time with family. While there we went to a pumpkin patch. It was so much fun!

The following weekend Cara and Kincade were married in the St. George temple. Everyone stayed at my house and thanks to some wonderful friends, Cara's and our nieces hair looked great! After the wedding we had a luncheon at a local church. Everyone visited and had a good time during the meal. It was followed by the cake cutting. Needless to say, they decided not to "be nice". Cara was afraid of her car getting decorated so she left it in my garage. Shanelle knew where it was and decorated the windows with paint. They went to Florida on their honeymoon and have returned back to life, but now together. It was a beautiful ceremony. When they left to go on their honeymoon, the rest of us went out to Sand Hollow Reservoir. We played in the COLD water and three of us went out cliff jumping. It was scary, but thrilling all at the same time. Next time we're going to get life jackets to go out so everyone can go that wants to.


Following the wedding I got really sick. I was pretty much in bed for 2 weeks. I had an amazing friend pick some things up at the store for me. It was greatly appreciated. My stomach was upset and my head hurt so bad. I don't remember the last time I was that sick. I know it was all because I stressed too much and overdid it. Now, Brax is sick and has been for 4 days. I hope he gets better soon because he's so tired of just sitting in the house all day.

Other than the wedding and illness it's been just run, run, run. I helped teach a class at Pow Wow last Saturday and had a Relief Society Santa's workshop. I was gone from 7:30 am until 6 pm. I felt so bad that Brax was sick and Branden had to stay home with him. I think they had a good time though.

We had our ward Primary Program on October 24th and it went a lot better than I anticipated. My mother-in-law came down and we had a fun weekend. We went to Pirate Island with her, my brother-in-law, sister-in-law, and niece. We had a lot of fun!
During Fall Break we went out adventuring with my sister-in-law, Kelly. We went to Staheli Farm where we went through three corn mazes and enjoyed some other things they had there. We didn't have time to go to the pumpkin patch, but we did that when we went to Richfield.

Other than everything listed above, I've been trying to hit sales to buy birthday and Christmas presents. I've been working on some presents for the past week and am excited for them to be done. I hope they are soon. I've been helping in Brax's class every other Tuesday. It's been a lot of fun. He gets really excited when he sees me walk into the class. He really is a good kid.



Branden is just doing what he normally does. He loves to go to yard sales on the weekends. He is also still working with the scouts. He enjoys it most of the time. He missed the opening of the pheasant hunt this year to stay home and watch Brax since I had meetings all day. He really is a good guy!

New Found Hobby

Well, I have been working for days on making fabric flowers. It doesn't make sense to me because I don't have any girls. Who do I make them for? Part of them are for our niece for her birthday, but it isn't until December. I just got addicted and can't stop. I can wear some of them myself so I guess that works. Why I'm so addicted I have no idea! I have included a few pictures of bows I've made. Realize it's only a small portion and I've made at least 20 in the past few days. This is really going to be a problem.

Life is a Movie

If you know me, you know I love movies and shoes. Sometimes I feel like life is a movie and I just watch it as it passes by. We have been doing so many things that I hardly remember any of them and that's pretty sad. Maybe by the end of the post I'll remember. I found a good deal on a skirt ($6.99) and it was different so I bought it. I also made a new one for Cara's wedding, which I'll post a picture later. I love it and can't wait to wear it. I also found some shoes for $2 that are awesome. I even call them "Shanelle worthy". Shanelle is my youngest sister and she wears some crazy shoes of which I think are cute, but would never wear. Mostly because they're high heels and I'd break my ankle. I can't pass up a good deal though and I love my new shoes.

Anyway, we did go to Venice and Glenwood over Labor Day weekend. I was feeling homesick for Venice for the first time since I moved down here. We were able to go to two family reunions and a baby blessing, so we saw pretty much all the family that lives there and some that live further away. We got there Friday night after Brax got out of school and we stopped in Beaver for curd and ice cream. Saturday morning Branden went golfing and then helped pick corn. We went to the Oldroyd family reunion that afternoon. After the reunion, Branden and Brax went back to the Anderson's while I went to Venice and helped with corn. It was a lot of fun to visit with everyone. On Sunday morning we went to the baby blessing and then to my grandma Spencer's for lunch. That evening we started the Cowley family reunion at my grandpa's. We ate dinner and played games. Monday we had breakfast and then helped clean out the old school house in Venice. It was interesting to go back in there. I even put on some roller skates with the kids and went down the halls. I almost fell and decided that was enough. We headed home that night to get Brax ready for school the next day.



Other than that, Branden has scouts and I have scouts and Primary. I'm in charge of Sharing Time this month and I hope it's going okay. Sometimes I just don't know. We have a Primary activity tomorrow night that should be a lot of fun. The whole family was able to go to the 100 year Scout celebration that was held here at the fairgrounds. I was with the Cubs and Branden and Brax were with the Boy Scouts. We all had a lot of fun, but were so exhausted that night. I think it's the first time I've ever fallen asleep when I hit the pillow. It was great! I didn't wake up until my alarm went off the next morning.

Brax still is always looking for a friend to play with. He is definitely a social being. He tries to get his homework done quickly so he can play. He is still practicing the piano and helping cook when it's convenient for him. He is in a reading recovery program at school and it seems to be helping him out a lot. He struggles putting the sounds the letters in a word make into a word. Usually it's some off the wall word that isn't even close to what the word really is. He is a good kid that loves to help and he works hard.

I went to the eye doctor and got enlightened a lot. I learned that flashes of light when you blink can be symptoms of migraines, which mine is because they couldn't find anything wrong with my eyes. Another thing I learned is that eye twitching is a sign of lack of sleep. He told me he'd even write me a prescription for more sleep, but I didn't think it'd help. My one eye has worsened a little, but my new glasses will help with that. We discussed contacts, but I have an astigmatism that requires certain contacts. My astigmatism in both eyes is 100 and they only make contacts in 75 and 125 so my eyes wouldn't get all they help they need because they drop down to the 75. Contacts would still work, but with that and the dryness and itchiness I have we decided all in all it wasn't worth it.

The doctor told me last time I went in that if I took 3 Clomid when the time is right that my cycle should start after that. Well, it didn't work and I need to call him, but am putting it off. I've decided I really like how things are right now and don't want them to change so I probably will hang tight for a while. This is the first time in a lot of years I've felt at peace with my life. I think I'm just ready to be done with it all! It seems to make life a lot easier for me to handle. Anyway, I think that's all that is going on with us right now. Exploring Cooking

Braxten has fallen in love with Cupcake Wars and Cake Boss so he's started cooking, with help of course! His first creation was a birthday cake for his dad, it turned out okay but I know what to do better next time. His second creation was Oreo cups that we made for a friend for her birthday. The latest thing he made is chocolate chip cookies. He left his "wallet" outside last night and one of the neighbors returned it so he made him cookies. They are really good and he can't stop eating them. Other than that, he's doing school work and practicing the piano. Oh and you can't forget playing with friends. Him and the neighbor kids are back and forth, but they have a great time!


I've been helping get ready for my sister, Cara's, wedding. I made her a bouquet, which I hope she likes it. I think it's pretty cool and different. I also got to go shopping for her jewelry and flowers for the cake. It's been fun being somewhat a part of the planning. She is getting married in St. George which I am excited about! Other than that, I've been doing stuff with the Primary and Scouting. Life is crazy and I have to use my time wisely, but still enjoying life.


Branden has the same old going on all the time. He has work and scouts. We do get to spend every Friday morning together which has been fun. We've gone to the temple, shopping, and ate lunch at school with Brax. We also played on the playground with some of the kids and taught them how to play four square. We're just having a fun time!

Back to School Time

I can't believe it, but Brax is back in school and has finished his first three days as a 1st grader. He loves school and his new found independence. He is excited every time he comes home. We went to back to school night with him and met his teacher. Brax gets up early to get ready for school and can't possibly wait to head to the bus stop. He is so funny! His new found loves are Phineas and Ferb, Cupcake Wars, and anything dealing with survival. He asks tons of questions. The one day he even designed his own cupcake display. Cooking classes are a next step in our boy's life, according to him. He is also taking piano from me and so far so good. He is a smart kid and we love him very much. I've volunteered to help at the school and I'm looking forward to being a part of his school education.

With Braxten back in school, I have 7.5 hours all to myself to try to get things done. This past week has been a dry run, but I think I'm figuring it out. Branden and I were able to have a date day while Brax was in school. It was kind of nice. I have also averaged 1-2 workouts a day since school began. At this rate I'm hoping to be skinny before school ends. We'll have to see what happens. My pills are finally working and are proving to help with my cycle which is great! It'd be nice if the pregnancy option came into play, but to tell the truth I don't know that I'm quite ready for that right now. I am enjoying my new alone time. I have felt kind of lost and haven't managed time very well, but I'll get it figured out. I should be able to have a clean house.

Branden is just working like crazy on his project at work. He is getting quite tan due to the fact that he's outside most of the day at work. As for me, still light and no desire to go out in the sun all day. It is Branden's birthday on Tuesday. I just gave him cash because he's really good at saving it up so that he can get something he has his eye on. He really wants an air compressor. It was due to the fact that both cars had low air pressure this past week and it was a pain trying to get them filled up. He did change the oil in our car today while I was out and about which I really appreciated! I love Branden and am blessed to have him in my life. Anyway, that's a quick update on the family. Brax's Vision Update

I took Brax to the eye doctor today and learned a lot. I took him to an opthamologist to see what he had to say. I learned his one eye has gotten better and the other staying the same. If you didn't know, he has a lazy eye. It can be corrected through surgery or a patch. His glasses also help correct that and so we'll continue trying that method. He'll always have to wear glasses. He can get contacts when he's 12 or 13. When his eyes stabilize (age 19 or 20) Lasik will be possible or whatever methods they've come up with by then. We ordered glasses for him today and got thin lenses again and they're even thinning them out in the middle so they all look the same. I've always believed it's worth the money so he doesn't get made fun of any more than he will. The eye doctor commented on how well behaved Brax was and that most kids his age don't do that well during a checkup. We are both excited for his new glasses. He starts school on the 11th, but they probably won't get here until the following week. Until then, we'll both be anxious and excited! Anyway, have a great day!
